Enjoy a fun with a ‘bit of a challenge’ mountain bike ride through the heart of the Peak District. The route takes you along high dry stone walled tracks with some puddles waiting round the corner… (THERE IS ONE BUSY ROAD TO CROSS & RIDE ALONG FOR 200 YARDS – THEREFORE GREAT CARE MUST BE TAKEN & SUPERVISING ADULTS IN CONTROL OF MINORS IN THEIR CHARGE!) the long fun downhill awaits after a short climb passing through disused mine and taking the old road that mine trucks used to once use. The ’swishes and swooshes’ of this downhill leave a smile on everyone’s face. As you pass through Stoney Middleton (Main road – TAKE CARE!) on your return journey you might be tempted with a visit to the fish and chip shop or a quick look at the Roman baths. Then its back up the valley with views all around as you climb back to Eyam. Your final leg is to ride through our picturesque and historic village with options to stop at Cafes, peer in to the historic church, wonder around Eyam Hall craft centre or just head back to the finish line.

Ring O'Roses

A medium ride of 25 miles

Love riding great tracks with challenging descents and then mixing it up with fast flowing trails, but without too much climbing. Then this is for you. Views of Chatsworth start early on as you climb out of the historic village of Eyam before you plunge downhill and past the Roman baths of Stoney Middleton. Of course every down has an up! Chatsworth estate becomes ever closer and before long you are riding through one of the most impressive estates in the country with deer and sheep keeping an eye on you. The ascent through Chatsworth will have your lungs busting and a sense of achievement for those who clear it! Single track woody descent follows and the uphill is forgotten. Now your heading back following the beautiful old rail way line before trail heads up with panoramic vistas over Bakewell. The final descent twists and turns with lumps and bumps ready to grab your wheel. As you head back in to Eyam you will remember this ride.

WARNING! For those who love lots of climbing and technical descents. You follow the medium route but then head on south out after the Chatsworth woody descent ripping down to Rowsley. Here you can stop for well earned coffee break at the Cavendish Mill. You will need some energy for the next ‘Big’ climb but with legs burning the woody single track that follows is sublime and test with routes and dips appearing before your eyes. The hills are a challenge for grip and oxygen and if you make the next climb then ‘give yourself a pat on the back’ for what awaits are open views of Chatsworth as you zip down rough sandy tracks back to the estate. Heading home now but don’t worry there are still some amazing climbs and descents to keep you focused. Its not long before you join the ‘red rat’ on the old rail way line and enjoy the final descent that twists, turns and jolts you around before your legs have to push you and your bike back in to the village. Well done!!
