Three challenging mountain bike rides starting from Eyam, in the Peak District
Red Rat Rampage 2024
The RED RAT RAMPAGE is BACK for the 4th time!! A community fundraising mountain bike challenge event in the heart of the Peak District taking place on Sunday 22th September
There are 3 routes to choose from…
SHORT: ‘Splat the Rat’ - 13km + 300m ascent
MEDIUM: ‘to the EDGE and back' - 40km + 1000m ascentA new route that drops you down to the beautiful village of Froggatt and over the old bridge crossing the river Derwent before a challenging climb to the stunning Froggatt edge with stunning views across the valley below. Next comes the ‘Spookey House’ ascent before a food stop and the moorland pass that eventually drops you past a small moorland reservoir where many now bathe.
Beyonfd this the tracks split for Bubonicator to extend but the Ring O’Roses turns right and heads home bound. But don’t think its all done. A long descent drops you to the Chatsworth village of Baslow with a Spar and Co-Op before the challenging climbs back to Eyam with a final long descent into Stoney Middleton on the way.
LONG: ‘to the EDGE and BEYOND’ - 60km + 1500m ascent
You follow the MEDIUM ROUTE but then head out towards the narrow twisty tracks that are to follow. This combined with some mud and ford crossings adds to this routes charm. Be prepared for the leg sapping climbs that await as you twist and turn back to join your fellow bikers on the MEDIUM ROUTE.
All routes begin in the historical Peak District village of Eyam and are designed to be a ‘Challenge’ and NOT a race.
All routes combine public highway and off road trails.
Fee includes signed & marshalled route, feed stations, hot soup (In a RRR MUG!) & a roll upon completion.
‘Splat the Rat’ is designed for families with riders aged 8 years+ (all U18s MUST be accompanied by an adult on any route) or less experienced riders

Enjoy a fun with a ‘bit of a challenge’ mountain bike ride through the heart of the Peak District. The route takes you along high dry stone walled tracks with some puddles waiting round the corner… (THERE IS ONE BUSY ROAD TO CROSS & RIDE ALONG FOR 200 YARDS – THEREFORE GREAT CARE MUST BE TAKEN & SUPERVISING ADULTS IN CONTROL OF MINORS IN THEIR CHARGE!) the long fun downhill awaits after a short climb passing through disused mine and taking the old road that mine trucks used to once use. The ’swishes and swooshes’ of this downhill leave a smile on everyone’s face. As you pass through Stoney Middleton (Main road – TAKE CARE!) on your return journey you might be tempted with a visit to the fish and chip shop or a quick look at the Roman baths. Then its back up the valley with views all around as you climb back to Eyam. Your final leg is to ride through our picturesque and historic village with options to stop at Cafes, peer in to the historic church, wonder around Eyam Hall craft centre or just head back to the finish line.
